A Nannie Day...

A Nannie Day...
Some of my favorite days are those spent with my Mom.
Today, a trip we try to make about once a month.

The Forum
One of our favorite places to do a little shopping at some the best places.

Lunch at Jason's Deli
They have the best salad bar, deli sandwiches, soups
Little gingerbread muffins...
I'm hungry already.

Super H ~ We stop there on the way home. The best produce, bakery, fish market...
We always come away with a buggy full of delicious finds.

Trader Joe's is an always stop on our Forum shopping days. Chocolate croissant's, Lava Cakes,
fresh flowers, fabulous cheese... they have most anything. Today, Valentines treats are on my list. I'm sure they will have a great selection.

And all at great prices.

Wishing you a happy Tuesday. Ours will be a full day of shopping.
I enjoy all days with Nannie ~ when we are together shopping,
there's no telling what we might get into.

Nannie day... fun stuff... It's back to the "village" tomorrow after getting ready for my "company"..

So today, some fun with "Nannie" ~ an off day and a pretty one at that.
We have company coming tomorrow ~ My Uncle John & Aunt Judy so we needed
some "fresh flowers" , "fresh breads & pastries", "good coffee beans" ~ you know,
we like them and want to show them a great time on their visit.
Friday night appetizers at our home ~ so, had to get the fresh ingredients to that...
then we are taking them to "Urban Flats" ~ you know how I adore that~ they will too, I'm sure.
off to the Dekalb Farmers Market. Have you been? Its the best around...
More about that in a bit... but we did take time to have lunch out ~ "Water Shed"~ Martha is right about this place... heaven on earth~!

Occurred to me today, that I haven't recognized "Melissa" for her big heartbreak... so, soon a post to her. Recovery... and her "silver lining" coming soon, I know it~!
If for no other reason, I truly enjoyed her on "Dancing with the Stars" ~ not too shabby for only 48 hours of practice time. I'm sure she has done a bit of dancing as a
"Cheerleader for the Cowboys" ~ and the ballet she's done doesn't hurt.
I admire her getting back our there... so quick. She's going places.
You have to know by now, I love tough women... independent is good too...
I'm one of those.
So, if you don't watch shows like this ~ just skip my post on her.

Tomorrow, another "exciting Friday" at the "village" ~ I adore "Friday's"... working with
Piggy, Whimsy & Ella. Can't wait, and you know girls I will be in by 11.
Have to finish all I've started for "company" so I'm ready and waiting...

This, is "Miss Hag" ~ just ask CP ~ she will tell you it's true.
Doesn't anyone need a Coconut Head Woman to live with them?
She is super ready for a new home.
She has actually scared some little customers
visiting our cozy shop.

Loving this new chair "My Vintage Heart" ~ it won't be here long...
I'll be back at the "village" ~ for more pictures tomorrow,
you know treasures arrive daily. I'm so glad ~ there will be more to share.

Today, I forgot my camera in my haste...(Nannie was glad) so this is a
"cantaloupe prize picture"
from our last "market trip" ~
looks like Nannie won the lottery
with her "cantaloupe".
I love her... She makes me smile..I treasure each day with her.
and yes, we do get in trouble where ever we end up~!
Lunch out at "Water Shed" ~ out first trip there.
Wonderful, awesome, amazing, delicious, fantastic, splendid, fresh, appetizing...
and on and on. I can't wait to go back.
Nannie has the "Shrimp Salad" ~ and you know I love a good Salad so I had
one too... they were the "bomb"~!
Already told my "darling husband" he is taking me there
for my birthday..
that's coming up~! Yea~
Glad I found that cute purse that needed my monogram to drop off at Melrose on Ponce. That's another treat shop. Shirlyn does a terrific job and
she monograms so the "perfect friend"~!
She actually got her start at the "village" ~ how cool is that?
Tell her I sent you... you'll be glad you went~!
"Mary Kay Andrews" shops there too...
we know a great shop when we find one.
Then our last stop before home, the Dekalb Farmers Market.
Now, that's "heaven".
Anything you ever wished for to eat or drink, and then some.
I got a bunch of good stuff... and some "Blue Mountain Coffee from Jamaica" ~
splurged for my "baby" ~ he had a rough day. But he too will
have the "silver lining" after all this "going's on". Say a little prayer for him,
he has some new (like yesterday...) medical challenges
that we will face head on ~ real soon~!
busy days ahead.. excitement... until later... ~one vintage hag
and don't forget, the "Gold Buy" at the "village" ~ Monday night from 6:30 - 9:00
with yummy 'freshements.

An Outing with Nannie ~ I love my Mom~! She is a "hoot".

So, I've told you a bit about my "Mom" ~ "Nannie", well the two of us are really close and I
always enjoy her company. Being active that she is, normally she won't
go outside her comfort zone driving all over the place. She drives to Church,
swimming 3 times a week, to lunch with friends, to see my Sister,
She will take "Toddy", her girlfriend and go fun places too. They do the "Senior Bus Trips" together pretty regularly.
Now, Mom and I try to get together for a "jaunt" every month ~ sometimes more. Sometimes for the whole day, some times for an afternoon.
Tuesday, March 3 was just for the afternoon.
Saying to me... "Wanna go to Super H ?, Sure would like some good fruit...."

So, we arrived...Super H Market... Have you been? Asian Market with everything but the "kitchen sink" ~ and its spotless & very fresh. We love that store.

"Oh, boy... they have stuff outside. Let's go see"...
"Debbie these sure are some nice Navel Oranges, want me to pick out some for you?"

"Did you see these Pineapples ~ remember how I told you that you know how they are ripe?" "There only $1.99..." Yes, Mom...

"Wait just a minute..., I need some more of these Naval Oranges...
Kathy would love these"....
Then, speaking with a Chinese Man... (sorry, I deleted by mistake that picture...)
"Sir, these Cantaloupes aren't very ripe... but you could leave them on the counter at home
to finish ripening... Wonder if these would be any good?"
"Debbie, you want this one? Its a nice big Cantaloupe, doesn't Clayton love cantaloupe?"

Once inside, "Nannie" is on a mission...."What's this... do you like those? If you see
"Boston Lettuce" that's what I like on my sandwiches.... surely, they have Boston lettuce..." Did you get some Strawberries? Those Mango look sweet..."

We like the store on Pleasant Hill Road ~ its really large ~ has a great selection. If you eat it they sell it. Produce, Fish, Beef, Chicken, Tea, Condiments, Candy, Popped Rice & Dairy too..

"Do you like these Asian pears?" ~ "Think I'll try one Mom"...

"Debbie, look at this bakery... this looks really good, they have homemade Raisin Bread, that'd be good for toast. You want some?"
The story goes on and on... we laughed until we cried. We found out what Japanese Women do with "grouper heads" & their cheeks... make good soup...
We got home with quite the assortment of fresh produce,
flowers, meat, tea & popped rice...

My selections on the counter in the kitchen. All this for under $40....

Papaya, red & yellow bell pepper, Fuji apples, rutabaga, lemons, plums, carrots, cauliflower... oranges.....

Raisin bread, Chinese green tea, bananas, pineapple &
even a fresh bunch of "baby's breath" ~ need to make "Louisa" a hostess gift for this evening...

Popped Rice that's the Best~!
The lady in the back of the store sells it for $3.50 a bag. Great healthy snack with no calories...

Now, that was a fun and productive trip. "Nannie", we haven't been to the "Dekalb Farmers Market" in a while... maybe that will be next. And, I need some things from "Trader Joe's".
Mom is a hoot... if you need someone to go with, I'm sure she would "tag along...".
I love my "Mom" and the time we spend together.
Would love to keep her forever....
~one vintage hag
p.s.~ now for later today, i've gotta get me one em redneck dictonaries... gotta stories to tell ya bout last nite.over thar at louisas place... she lives in a manchon....and i dun been to tat plaze.

Meet “Nannie” ~ The Strongest Little Lady I know, My Mom

My Mom, with her Dad~ Lt. Col. U.S. Air Force in 1955 ~
I’m sure there are Strong folks in everyone’s life so I’d like to tell you about my hero. She’s the Greatest Mom, Grandmother, Friend ever. Little in size
but truly one of the biggest ladies I know ~ she embraces each opportunity.

For years and years she took a back seat to my Dad, the ultimate in submissive women. Since his death in June of 2004 she has been so strong, so bold & brave in embracing life. You would think that after all that time with one Man she would hide from life, that certainly isn’t the case. She’s retired. She swims with the “Twinges” 3 days a week for her arthritis, she had both of her knees replaced at the same time January 2008. She is busy. She has lunch out most swimming days and always with her friends after Church on Sundays.
She reads and shares good books with me & Lindsey (her grand-daugher, my daughter).
She loves the “Goodwill” on Senior Day. She has been on a cruise.
She takes Trips with other Senior’s with a tour group. She loves her Church and her Pastor. She has several Dear Friends who she enjoys doing stuff with. Especially “Toddy” & “Cheryl” ~ She loves “going” ~ we try to have a day out every month or so, we go to the Dekalb Farmers Market or to Trader Joe’s & Super H Market. We always have to stop and get David ~ Asiago Cheese Bagels at Panera when we pass one to take him a treat. She tells him they “stink up car”. And, we always have lunch out. She enjoys Jason’s Deli, Chinese, Mexican, Italian, and sometimes just a burger from Steak & Shake.
She is a constant stream of support & encouragement for her Children, 2 girls & her Grandchildren, 2 girls & 2 boys.

I’m delighted that I have a Mom that I can be close to, that I can share anything with, that I can ask advice or opinions, that I can laugh with, that I can spend my days with. Why, she will even “junk” with me. What more could you ask for? So that my friends is why I clean for her, that’s the least I could do. I’ve heard it said that there is a special place in heaven for a Mother of girls – or maybe even boys. She sure deserves that special place! She certainly has a special place in my heart. She has done a great job with her “girls” and is so very proud of her “Grandchildren”.

I love you, “Nannie”!
