It's a "New Day" at Vintage Village

a fresh day filled with opportunity...

As I mentioned in a post earlier this week my dear friend and business partner retired from being a "hag" earlier this year.  After 17 years owning a business together its a bit overwhelming to wrap your thoughts around being the only "hag".  It's such a good thing for her and I was delighted that she decided to stay on in a small spot at Vintage Village so that she stays in touch with all of us.

One of my first thoughts was a freshen up @ Vintage Village.  Time passes quickly and we don't always take a minute to look around and decide its time to spruce up but in our case... past time.  Scuffs on the walls required some fresh paint, stale looking floor plan required a bit of creativity and to get current some burlap.  Have you fallen in love with burlap like we have around the Village.  It's been around forever but who knew the possibilities it offers at such an affordable cost.

Little by little things have been crossed off the list and yesterday was no exception.  One of the many things I've wanted to freshen up is our counter area.  Girlfriends with power tools are a blessing! Dealers with connections for vintage tin roofs, yes... another blessing. 



Still have some trim out with cool old moulding to do but how crusty, delightful, vintage our reface turned out.  Re purposed, fresh & oh... so WONDERFUL!  It's even magnetic.  Thank you Thank you Thank you, Carla!  I bet like me that bubble bath felt really good last night.  Bet you slept good too.  A days hard work does wonders for the soul.

It occurs to me that not so many are afforded the blessings I have been.  To be in a business I'm passionate about.  To be surrounded with such talented and creative group of dealers.  To have the BEST customers EVER!  To have fun at my job.  To be excited for the next work day.  Being a "hag" isn't all it's cracked up to be at times but it's oh so wonderful at others.  Truly, grateful!

The list is long and the ideas that ole hamster in my head spins are sometimes interesting to say the least. It's been a fun few weeks in this new adventure.

Summer time offers so much fun in the sun

have you discovered fairy gardens?

Tiny in size yet large in character and heart.  Fairy gardens seem to be the latest craze in gardening in our area, probably in yours too. the sky is the limit and your imagination can truly go wild creating a fairy garden of your own.  several years ago my dear friend and former business partner, Linda gave me this awesome vintage bird bath.  Still having much of the old worn pink paint I've used it as a table, a plant stand for ferns and posies but this year transformed into a fairy garden on the hag patio at home.

 Of course there is a little fairy, a cobblestone street, a shell path, a tiny bottle in which wishes can be saved, a bridge, two darling chairs, a metal fence section, tiny flower pots, a little light on a shepperd's hook and one of my favorite things a wonderful glass cloche that sits amongst the plants.  it's truly the cutest thing ever. 

What makes it special is picking just the right little plants.  I've seen them done with low maintenance sedum but I chose small plants for scale and do give them the regular amount of water just like any other porch plant. 

I've sure enjoyed finding little additions for my fairy garden and were given several darling things for my birthday that have been added.  the wire plant included loves its spot in the garden and has had to have a few trims in its attempt to take too much room.

Sure, the garden centers and my favorite nurseries have all the necessary ingredients for your fairy garden including all the plants & rocks.  but I've enjoyed finding perfect little additions in antique and thrift shops.  yesterday,  a friend from vintage village gave me a darling little wood village that includes a few houses and wooden trees.  think i will seal those with poly spray and add to a corner of the garden.

Fun in the summer time... many of my days begin on the porch enjoying morning coffee, watching the fish (that have gotten really big) in my patio puddle and now a fairy garden.  a bird or two has landed there for closer inspection, even a darling hummingbird.

where does the time go?...

wow... doesn't seem possible that our last post was in the Winter.

never our intent to do a blog with the Seasons we're getting a little help from a few blogging friends to freshen up and revamp the one vintage hag blog spot.  yay!

in an effort to catch you up so you'll know what we've been up to around Vintage Village...

We've welcomed talented dealers Leigh Ann & Lisa (SS), Jenny & Lindsey (TKJ), Allison (L&F), Rachel and Aimee (JAR), Barbara (BGF), and the Nest spot to Vintage Village this year.

We've welcomed "The Shop" to the cottage behind Vintage Village.  Danielle and DJ have the cutest little shop (much like us just smaller) so you'll want to visit with them when you by as well.  We need to invite them to do a guest post on our blog so you can get to know them.

We've freshened up the floor plan, we've painted a few walls, we've added some industrial metal shelves for rent. 

One of the "hags" retired.  GOOD FOR HER!  But still has a small space with us so we're tickled about that. 

We said goodbye to Nannie Hag the end of February.  Gosh, still miss her like crazy (guessing we always will)!  But draw comfort in the fact that shes at peace, free of pain and watching over us.

We're excited for grand baby #1 due December 2012.

So long 2011... HELLO 2012

So long 2011...

Hard to believe we've said goodbye to another year. Always cause for reflections and resolutions for the year ahead. Some of our favorites pictured here we will always look forward to once again.

As we ready the Village with a fresh new look to welcome in 2012. Routines seem to be back in place and schedules have resumed with the hopes of productive, profitable, healthy, bliss filled months to come.

Lovers of all things old it's a welcome addition to see charming old china smitten with roses, silver plate trays with that perfect worn patina and a few pieces of furniture sure to brighten an room now blah with the packing up of the glitz and glitter of the holidays gone by.

So happy that quad plate is still amongst customer favorites. If it could tell a stories of the many years its been around I'm sure we'd all be fascinated for hours.

Looking back to a few FAVORITES of 2011 ~ Country Living Fair in Atlanta was surely amongst the top of our list. Was great to visit with "The Tattered Cat", "The Painted Fern", "My Vintage Heart", "Sassy Trash" and others... marvel at the talent and creativity these ladies are blessed with.

We'll look forward to seeing these fabulous dealers and meeting new favorites this fall when the fair returns to Atlanta.

The much anticipated "Hag's Holiday Open House" still resonates in the forefront of our minds.

Such magical evenings of candlelight shopping chock full of vintage holiday wares, the best customers ever enjoying these evenings full of 'freshments and cider selecting perfect presents. Hardly able to believe the stops pulled out by our group of talented dealers. Every year tops the past... makes me wonder what this years event will hold.

When all is said and done... still enjoying each other and sharing laughs.

Christmas Traditions with a Christmas Book Giveaway

Having spent the last couple days baking holiday treats, making grocery list for our 27th Christmas Brunch,wrapping gifts for under the tree and packaging up special baubles for dear friends I've thought a lot about Christmas Traditions that each family shares. Along with all the normals we share- precious time with friends, hustle and bustle of shopping, the hectic days spent at Vintage Village, I also cherish cozy time spent with a good holiday book.

An all time favorite is from Atlanta author Mary Kay Andrews. Her Savannah Blues, Savannah Breeze and Blue Christmas novels are a story line all too familiar to the life any junker lives.

This makes the 6th Christmas that I've enjoyed "Blue Christmas" so, I'm guessing that too is now to be considered a sweet "hag" holiday tradition.

It's the week before Christmas, and antiques dealer Weezie Foley is in a frenzy to garnish her shop for the Savannah historical district decorating contest, which she intends to win. But suddenly things start to go missing from her display, and there seems to be a mysterious midnight visitor to her shop.
Still, Weezie has high hopes for the holiday—maybe in the form of an engagement ring from her chef boyfriend. But Daniel, always moody at the holidays, seems more distant than usual. Throw in Weezie's decidedly odd family, a 1950s Christmas-tree pin, and even a little help from the King himself (Elvis, that is), and maybe there will be a pocketful of miracles for Weezie this Christmas Eve.

"I'll be HOME for Christmas!"

Perhaps because so much of this year has been spent in hospitals, doctors offices and with appointments for this "hag" and her family this year. Every day is SPECIAL... but, Christmas time being extra special with the anticipation of time spent at HOME. There truly is, no place like home!

Sprinkles of the holidays are complete... now, just the best parts remain. Wrapping, baking, family, food & festivities!

"Hags" aren't all about brooms to ride, warts on noses or pointed black hats... they actually enjoy the twinkle of lights, patina of crusty wares, even the shine of mercury glass and old fashioned glass glitter. Vintage Annalee's & old well loved bottle brush trees, So, just a few glances to share around this "hags" holiday home.

I love this little Annalee Drummer Boy ~ an oldie but goodie nestled amongst a rabbits foot fern and bowl brimming with vintage mercury glass ornaments. Once there were enough older Annalee's to fill a 10 foot flocked tree, with a much smaller abode currently we've only kept our absolute favorites to frost necessary corners or complete holiday vignettes.

This "hags" collection of matte white pottery and old alarm clocks has been packed away to make room for "Mr. Hag's" Christmas in the City village. There's Yankee Stadium, Tavern on the Green, Rockefeller Center,

even Architectural Antiques Shop with little columns and salvage baubles you might find in the real antique store where many of my days are spent. Two family room wall shelves make up the villages home for the holidays above the happenings of holiday gatherings.

Brrr... and even a modest little collection of Snowmen. So cheery and neat... all but one who melted into a pretty bowl look forward each year to being part of the holiday festivities.

"Home for the Holidays" the perfect GIFT!

Our wish this holiday season is peace, happiness, health and of course much cheer with family & friends.
